SAN FRANCISCO, CA — July 20, 2026
Biolux Technology today announced preliminary results from an ongoing clinical study conducted by Dr. Bella Shen Garnett, DMD, MMSc, comparing outcomes from 20 consecutive Invisalign® patients treated with OrthoPulse versus 20 consecutive Invisalign® patients treated without OrthoPulse.
Dr. Shen Garnett, who maintains two orthodontic practices in San Francisco, analyzed completed Invisalign® cases from her practice database to evaluate the impact of near-infrared photobiomodulation (PBM) on treatment efficiency and predictability.
These preliminary findings from the first 40 completed cases demonstrate substantial improvements across multiple clinical and operational metrics for patients treated with OrthoPulse.
Key Findings
Compared with patients treated without OrthoPulse, the OrthoPulse group achieved:
23% fewer office visits
54% shorter treatment time
49% fewer refinements
45% fewer finishing aligners
15% of cases completed with no refinements required
Clinical Outcomes
Notably, the OrthoPulse group began treatment with a slightly higher average number of initial aligner stages (25.4 vs. 21.8), yet still achieved significantly more efficient treatment outcomes.
Preliminary Real-World Evidence from Daily Orthodontic Practice
The analysis reflects real-world clinical performance from consecutive completed Invisalign® cases within a single orthodontic practice and represents the first dataset from an ongoing clinical study that is expected to expand with additional cases.
According to Dr. Shen Garnett, the results reinforce the role of near-infrared light therapy as a valuable tool for improving treatment predictability and efficiency.
One of the biggest challenges in aligner therapy is ensuring that treatment progresses as planned. These findings suggest that OrthoPulse may help reduce the need for refinements while improving overall treatment efficiency and the patient experience.
Helping Bridge the Gap Between Treatment Planning and Clinical Reality
OrthoPulse is an FDA-cleared and EU MDR-compliant medical device that uses near-infrared photobiomodulation technology to stimulate cellular activity associated with bone remodeling. The device is used for just 10 minutes per day and can be prescribed alongside aligners or fixed appliances.
As orthodontic practices continue to seek ways to improve treatment predictability, reduce treatment duration, and enhance the patient experience, real-world clinical evidence continues to support the integration of photobiomodulation into modern orthodontic workflows.
